Nothing to configure. Sign in once and the guide, the catchup window and the categories are already arranged. Smarters is more configurable, which also means there is more to get wrong.
Where Smarters is better
It is player-agnostic. Running two providers, or planning to switch, is simpler in a neutral app that holds several playlists side by side.
More settings. Buffer size, decoder choice, EPG offset. If you want that level of control, Smarters gives you more of it than we do.
Familiarity. If your household already knows the interface, changing it has a cost and very little benefit.
What actually decides the picture
Neither app, is the honest answer. A player decodes what it is sent. Whether a stream holds together at kick-off is decided by how many connections the provider put on the server behind it.
That is the question worth asking of anyone you are considering, ourselves included. We cap every node at 60% of what the hardware can carry and leave the rest as headroom. Most providers will not tell you their number, which is itself an answer.
